We brought the tandems on our trip across France, which gives us an opportunity to discover the places we visit at a different pace. Our first housesitting is in Escrennes, a little village 9 kilometers south of Pithiviers, in Loiret. When I realised we were in Loiret, I called my friend Laurent who I knew had a place around. He happens to be there over the weekend, it’s about 20 km away, so we would go visit him.
We have already been to Pithiviers, it has nice cycling paths, sometimes protected from the road. The countryside is nice, large fields of cereals and beets, very flat for most of it but with little valleys along the river, l’Oeuf. Near Estouy there are some very nice properties, with little bridges over the river and trees around.
Laurent is an ex-colleague of mine, he’s very generous and knowledgeable. has inherited an ancient auberge, he collects a lot of things and he’s an expert in electronics, mechanics, model boats and trains… he owns a couple of nice old cars, and after the lunch outside he got them out.
The way back was a bit windy and showing we were lacking exercise. We saw some big tractors and harvesters on the way, and the castle of Yèvres-le-Châtel that is close by. Next time around we’ll have a stop!
